The Civil Guard's regulations mandate the suspension of the DAO after being charged, and Robles must decide... 03.07.2026

According to the Corps' regulations, the Deputy Operational Director (DAO) of the Civil Guard, Manuel Llamas, must be suspended from his duties following his indictment in the PSOE's 'sewer' case. The decision rests with the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, who will assess the gravity of the facts, after which the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, will decide whether the suspension entails removal from his post. This procedure was already applied to Commander Rubén Villalba, who was suspended in March 2024 following his arrest in the Koldo case and subsequently dismissed by Marlaska. The Director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, also indicted, acknowledged that Socialist plumber Leire Díez had asked her to reinstate Villalba, but she refused due to her own indictment.
