The Constitutional Declaration of July 2, 1990, known as the Declaration of Independence, along with the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo on September 7, 1990, constitute two of the most significant events of 1990 in the history of Kosovo, preceding subsequent resolutions, the 1991 referendum, and the liberation war. These acts emerged as a response to Serbia's aggressive aims to eliminate everything Albanian and to suppress the people of Kosovo by stifling its political and legal subjectivity. In this context, the LDK was founded under the leadership of Ibrahim Rugova, based on the universal right to self-determination and the will of the people. The Declaration was experienced as a victory by all Albanians.
