The CRA has nearly $2B in uncashed cheques — some of that could be yours 02.06.2026

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is holding approximately $1.9 billion in uncashed cheques for Canadians, totaling about 11 million payments as of April 2026. This amount has increased from March 2025, when $1.7 billion across 10.2 million cheques was outstanding. While most individual amounts are under $1,000, some exceed $100,000. These cheques, issued for reasons like tax refunds and benefits, are never void. Canadians can check for and request any uncashed payments through their CRA My Account, by phone, or on the CRA's website, and can still cash them at financial institutions.
