The Eastern Cape foundation helping the forgotten get their identity papers and their humanity 02.06.2026

In the remote Eastern Cape region of Elliotdale, the Nosintu Gwebindlala Foundation is actively addressing generational statelessness by assisting residents in obtaining crucial identity documents and birth certificates. Founded in 2022 by Nosintu Gwebindlala, the foundation operates primarily in the Xhora Mouth Administrative Area, tackling significant barriers such as long distances to Home Affairs offices, lack of transport, and complex late birth registration processes, often exacerbated by absent parents and limited access to healthcare facilities for births. The foundation works on approximately 500 cases annually, boasting an nearly 80% success rate in helping individuals, like Ntombekhaya Mduva, gain recognition and access to social welfare, thereby restoring their sense of humanity.
