The enigmatic deadly journey of Etienne Dedroog, the 'gîte killer' 14.07.2026

On December 2, 2011, 40-year-old Etienne Dedroog turned himself in at a police station in Leuven, ending his flight from the law. He is suspected of the murder of Martin (71) and Mia (69) Blankaerts, a Flemish retired couple living in the Ardennes, who were found strangled in their holiday cottage in Grandvoir (Neufchâteau) on November 29, 2011. Dedroog, who had posed as a National Geographic reporter, had stayed with them and stolen their vehicle and computer. He confessed to the double murder by simply stating, "I am guilty," without providing any explanation.
