The Future Under Construction in the Tunis Governorate: Between Demographic Pressure and Economic Ambitions (2026-2030) 07.07.2026

The Tunis Governorate faces major structural challenges despite its position as a national economic engine. With extreme population density and an aging population, the capital is experiencing an internal migration deficit and a contraction in household size. Although it concentrates 19% of private enterprises, it suffers from a high unemployment rate of 14.38% and uncontrolled urban sprawl. To address this, an ambitious investment plan for the 2026-2030 period has been developed, forecasting a total investment of 5,691 million dinars for 910 projects. This strategy aims for technological modernization, the improvement of transport infrastructure to relieve urban congestion, and the strengthening of social and health services. The objective is to transform Tunis into a smart and sustainable metropolis capable of reconciling economic growth with spatial justice by 2030.
