Despite an amber rainstorm warning and a leaky roof, the 50th anniversary edition of the Hong Kong Sevens commenced with a vibrant atmosphere at the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium on Friday. Spectators, including first-time visitors from Australia, expressed awe at the venue, and organizers appeared to have resolved last year’s food shortage issues. Revellers, many in elaborate costumes, began filling the South Stand, known for its party ambiance, as early as 10:30 am, demonstrating an enthusiastic start to the three-day rugby tournament.
