The underwater "secret weapon" that could stop any enemy in the Black Sea. Why Poland has it, while Romania only makes promises 04.07.2026

Poland has signed a strategic contract with the Swedish company Saab for the acquisition of three A26-type submarines, as part of the Orka naval modernization program, for a value of approximately 4.5 billion euros. This decision aims to ensure security in the Baltic Sea in the face of the Russian threat. In contrast, retired commander (r) Sandu Valentin Mateiu highlights the strategic chasm between Poland and Romania, where promises regarding the acquisition of submarines for the protection of the Black Sea coastline have never materialized. The expert explains that Poland benefits from political and economic cohesion that allows for the implementation of clear military strategies and concrete armament programs. In contrast, Romania suffers from a lack of coherence and a defined maritime strategy, lagging behind in the process of naval modernization compared to Poland's success.
