Amanda Nobiss, a dedicated volunteer with K9 Advocacy Manitoba, was killed during a routine animal rescue in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, approximately 180 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg. According to Chelsea Kork, a director for the organization, Nobiss was attempting to rescue a mother dog and her newborn puppies when she was attacked by a feral, vicious dog. The Manitoba First Nations Police Service confirmed that a post-mortem examination revealed injuries consistent with a dog attack, and two male dogs were subsequently destroyed. A female dog and several puppies were rescued by the advocacy group.
