“They are trying to silence voices”: Amnesty International condemns the murder of Roxana Guzmán 07.07.2026

Amnesty International strongly condemned the murder of communicator Roxana Guzmán, whose remains were located after she was reported missing. The international organization demanded that Mexican authorities and the Government of Veracruz conduct a prompt, exhaustive, and independent investigation that guarantees justice and full reparation for the harm caused. The organization emphasized the need for the process to be carried out with a gender perspective to identify both the material and intellectual authors of the crime. Furthermore, it warned that this homicide occurs in a context of extreme vulnerability for freedom of expression in Veracruz, where at least three journalists have been murdered this year. Finally, the Mexican State was called upon to strengthen protection mechanisms for journalists to prevent violence from continuing to silence voices and affecting society's right to receive information.
