This municipality is in political chaos: intended coalition collapses after departure of OP party member 07.07.2026

The municipality of Papendrecht is in a political crisis after the intended coalition between the PVV, VVD, and Onafhankelijk Papendrecht (OP) lost its majority. The crisis arose because council member Hendrika Hoekstra decided to leave the OP party because she rejects the appointment of Nikita de Ruiter as the first PVV alderman. However, Hoekstra no longer has confidence in her party leader due to alleged compromises. While the PVV seeks a new party to join the coalition, the VVD proposes to resume the formation process with the help of Christian parties. It has been proposed to appoint two informateurs who will conduct talks during the summer. Despite the political chaos, the current aldermen are packing their bags, with only Jaco van Erk remaining temporarily available. To ensure governance, it has been decided to appoint two temporary aldermen.
