TMC vs TMC: Security forces deployed as Ritabrata faction takes over Kolkata party headquarters; Mamata loyalists cry foul 04.07.2026

Tensions flared within the Trinamool Congress on Friday as security forces, including the CRPF and Kolkata Police, were deployed around the party's Metropolitan state office. This action followed claims by a rebel faction, led by Opposition Leader Ritabrata Banerjee, that they had seized control of the party headquarters. The move by Banerjee's group, which had previously petitioned the Election Commission seeking control of the party's name, funds, and symbol, included replacing signage and appointing a new chairman, Arup Roy. This dramatic takeover was met with strong opposition from Mamata Banerjee loyalists, who have lodged police complaints and condemned the rebels' actions, with senior leaders accusing the Union Government of supporting the faction. The Election Commission has set a July 6 deadline for both factions to submit their organizational claims.
