Top leader calls for reform of Party leadership methods to ensure strategic autonomy, sustainable development 03.06.2026

Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm emphasized the critical role of Party building and personnel affairs as the foundation of national governance during a working session in Hà Nội. He stressed the need for reforms to the Party’s leadership methods to bolster Vietnam's strategic autonomy and achieve sustainable development, as outlined in the 14th National Party Congress’s Resolution. Lâm called for a fundamental overhaul, shifting advisory work from reactive to proactive forecasting, and ensuring resolutions are translated into actionable programs with clear responsibilities and outcomes. He highlighted weak implementation capacity as a significant bottleneck and urged continued review of organizational structures to prevent task duplication. Personnel reforms require officials to possess strong ethics, strategic vision, digital skills, and problem-solving abilities, alongside a commitment to combatting corruption and bureaucratic inertia. Digital transformation within the Party is crucial for enhancing leadership, governance, and public services.
