Toronto police believe young "criminals for hire," recruited through encrypted messaging apps like Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp, are responsible for numerous shootings across the Greater Toronto Area. This includes an incident at the U.S. Consulate in March and several attacks on synagogues. Two handguns seized during recent raids are linked to 27 separate shootings, with investigators suggesting these firearms were circulated among different individuals. The modus operandi involves young people being hired to film their attacks for payment, creating a sense of fear within communities, particularly the Jewish community. While U.S. prosecutors have linked the consulate shooting to groups associated with the Iranian regime, Toronto police are continuing to investigate who is orchestrating these acts. Arrests have been made, including 18-year-old Sheldon Tracy-Stewart, with one suspect, Zara Jabbi, still at large.
