On August 12, 2026, Europe will witness its first total solar eclipse in 27 years, as the moon's shadow traverses Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain, and the Balearic Islands. During the brief period of totality, day will turn to twilight, revealing the sun's corona. Additionally, a partial solar eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, as well as parts of the northeastern United States and eastern Canada, where the moon will appear to take a bite out of the sun.
