Marnix Fonke, a 20-year-old Dutch tourist, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined €7,500 on Friday after admitting to assaulting two police officers and attempting to bribe a third. The incident occurred around 3am on Thursday on St George's Road in Paceville, following an argument with a bouncer at the Footloose nightclub. After being ejected from the club, Fonke continued confronting the bouncer until police intervened. CCTV footage showed Fonke grabbing a female police officer by the shirt and throwing her to the ground. When officers moved to arrest him, he violently resisted, striking a second officer on the back of the head, causing slight injuries.
