Tourist Rescued After Near-Drowning At Blue Lagoon 25.06.2026

A 79-year-old female tourist was rescued from the Blue Lagoon in Comino on earlier today after she got into difficulty while swimming. Police confirmed that the alarm was raised at approximately 12:50pm when the woman was found in distress in the water. A lifeguard quickly pulled her ashore and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Members of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) then took over resuscitation efforts after she stopped breathing a second time. The woman eventually resumed breathing and was transported by boat to Mġarr Harbour, where a Gozo General Hospital ambulance was waiting to take her for further treatment. By the time she reached the harbour, she had regained consciousness. During the emergency response, the ERRC deployed a second rescue boat to continue monitoring swimmers at the Blue Lagoon. No further update on the woman’s condition was available at the time of reporting. The swift actions of the lifeguard and ERRC personnel were critical in saving her life.
