Toyota recalls 73K hybrid vehicles over pedestrian warning sound issue 13h ago

Toyota is recalling approximately 73,528 hybrid vehicles, specifically the 2023–2025 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid models, due to a defect in their pedestrian warning sound system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that these vehicles may not emit a sufficiently loud sound when in reverse, thereby failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141 and increasing the risk of pedestrian injury. While the recall affects a significant number of vehicles, it is estimated that only about 1% of them actually possess the defect. Toyota dealerships will rectify the issue by updating the software on the affected vehicles at no cost to the owners, with owner notification letters scheduled for mailing by May 30, 2026.
