The Government of Chile reported on the progress of border trenches in the north of the country as part of the Border Shield Plan (Plan Escudo Fronterizo). The trench in Chacalluta, Arica region, has reached 100% completion of the committed 6,751 meters. During construction, initial difficulties were encountered because the coastal soil exhibited greater cohesion than in the Route 5 sector, which ultimately allowed for improved slope stability and reduced the need to extend the excavation. Currently, efforts are focused on operational adjustments such as the enabling of access points and cleaning of the area.
