Trotz fragiler Geschäftslage: Fraport eröffnet neue Skyline-Bahn am Flughafen Frankfurt 24.02.2026

Fraport officially launched its new "Skyline-Bahn" at Frankfurt Airport on Monday, February 23, 2026, despite a fragile business outlook. This 5.5-kilometer automated train system connects Terminal 1 with the upcoming Terminal 3, which opens on April 23. Operating at up to 80 km/h, it can transport over 4,000 travelers per hour per direction, significantly faster than the existing system, reducing travel time to eight minutes between the Regional/Fernbahnhof and Terminal 3. Project Manager Stefanie Plesmann highlighted the complex construction, including the Terminal 1 station built atop the City Mall. CEO Stefan Schulte acknowledges current low passenger forecasts due to global crises but remains confident in long-term growth, emphasizing the project's strategic importance and Fraport's ability to execute large-scale infrastructure.
