Trotz Schlappe auf Parteitag – Günther will Zuckersteuer über Bundesrat durchsetzen 23.02.2026

Despite a majority rejection of his proposed sugar tax at the CDU party congress, Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President Daniel Günther remains determined to pursue the policy. Günther announced his intention to advance the sugar tax initiative through the Bundesrat, asserting that the issue is far from settled. He expressed frustration with the party congress's debate, arguing that the opposition was driven by economic concerns rather than genuine youth protection, citing successful implementations in countries like Great Britain. Conversely, CDU Deputy Secretary-General Christina Stumpp opposed the tax, labeling it "green paternalism" that would unduly impact citizens' daily lives with questionable health benefits. Günther, however, views the tax as a means to reduce healthcare costs and improve public health.
