Trump administration scraps $1.8bn ‘anti-weaponisation fund’ 02.06.2026

The Trump administration has officially abandoned its proposed $1.8 billion "anti-weaponisation" fund following significant political backlash and legal setbacks. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed the decision on Tuesday before the House of Representatives appropriations committee, stating the fund would not proceed. This pivot comes two weeks after the fund was unveiled as part of a settlement for a lawsuit Trump filed against the government concerning alleged mishandling of his tax records. While the part of the settlement barring future audits into Trump's tax records will remain, the $1.8 billion fund, intended to compensate victims of government "lawfare," has been set aside. The fund's demise is linked to its political unpopularity and concerns from Republican lawmakers, particularly regarding its potential to fund individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol attack.
