Trump promised to cut electric bills in half. His energy policy is doing the opposite, new analysis finds 07.07.2026

A new analysis by the think tank Energy Innovation suggests that the Trump administration's energy policies will significantly increase electricity costs for Americans, contradicting President Trump's campaign promise to halve bills. By limiting renewable energy development through the removal of tax credits and making it harder to permit clean energy projects, the administration is favoring more expensive coal-fired power. The report predicts that American households will face increased costs totaling over half a trillion dollars by 2040, with individual household expenses rising by up to $490 by that year. This shift occurs amidst a surge in electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence and data centers. Additionally, the repeal of electric vehicle subsidies and consumer tax credits for home weatherization is expected to slow green technology adoption, potentially increasing long-term costs for consumers and impacting public health.
