Trump plans spending $377M on executive residence renovations – plus $174M more 03.04.2026

President Donald Trump's fiscal year 2026 budget proposal includes a significant increase of over $377 million for renovations to the White House executive residence, an 866 percent jump from the estimated $39 million in fiscal year 2025. This ambitious spending plan, part of a broader budget that prioritizes a $1.5 trillion increase in defense spending while slashing domestic programs, also estimates an additional $174 million for the following year. While a White House spokesperson indicated these figures encompass broader security and renovation costs beyond just the executive residence, specific project details remain undisclosed. A substantial portion of the fiscal year 2026 funds, $350 million, is classified as mandatory spending, which includes private donations for a proposed new White House ballroom, a project estimated to cost around $400 million and facing legal challenges.
