Trump signs AI order that asks companies to give government early access 02.06.2026

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on June 2 establishing a voluntary framework for AI developers to submit their advanced models to the federal government for review of potential security risks. This order, signed privately, avoids mandatory safety evaluations and cybersecurity testing, opting instead for a voluntary engagement process. The government would have up to 30 days to review submitted models. The order also directs the expansion of AI in national security and critical infrastructure. Trump had previously scrapped a similar order on May 21 due to concerns about overregulating the AI industry. While praised by some tech executives for balancing innovation and security, critics argue the order does not go far enough in regulating AI.
