Trump to ask Supreme Court to toss $83 million award to E. Jean Carroll 02.06.2026

Donald Trump's lawyers informed the Supreme Court on June 2 that they will soon appeal the $83.3 million jury award granted to writer E. Jean Carroll following Trump's denial of sexual assault. This marks the second appeal to the Supreme Court regarding judgments in the legal dispute between Trump and Carroll, which began in 2019 and has resulted in two civil trials. Trump's lawyers suggested the court might defer action on a prior appeal concerning a $5 million award, also upheld by federal appeals courts, until the new appeal is filed. Carroll originally accused Trump of sexual assault in 1996, leading to a defamation lawsuit and subsequent judgments that federal appeals courts deemed reasonable given the "extraordinary and egregious facts" and Trump's continued defamatory statements.
