Trumps „Friedensrat“ tagt in Washington: Was von der ersten Sitzung zu erwarten ist 02.03.2026

US President Donald Trump is set to chair the inaugural meeting of his "Peace Council" in Washington on Thursday, a new body intended to oversee the US plan for ending the war in the Gaza Strip and promoting stability in conflict regions. While the council's charter does not explicitly mention the Palestinian territory, Trump anticipates billions in aid pledges for Gaza's reconstruction and humanitarian needs, estimating five billion dollars, though the UN's reconstruction cost estimate is significantly higher at 70 billion dollars. The council, viewed by Trump as an alternative to the "outdated" United Nations, expects over 20 participating nations, including allies like Hungary and Argentina, alongside countries such as Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, with Israel represented by its Foreign Minister. Membership offers free three-year access or a one-billion-dollar indefinite option, while Germany, France, and the UK are not members, though Germany will be represented at a high official level.
