Turkse moskeeën stellen gebed uit op verkiezingsavond: "Niet kiezen tussen geloof en burgerplicht" 03.03.2026

In anticipation of the municipal elections on March 18th, which coincide with Ramadan, two Turkish mosques in the city, Mescid-I-Aksa in Nieuw-West and Ulu Camii in Oost, will postpone their evening prayer by one hour. This adjustment, moving the prayer from its usual 8:30 PM start to 9:30 PM, is intended to accommodate worshippers who may need to break their fast, perform their evening prayer, and then vote before the polls close at 9:00 PM. Mosque officials emphasize that this initiative aims to facilitate civic participation by ensuring members do not have to choose between their religious obligations and their duty to vote, while also stressing that the choice of who to vote for remains a personal decision. Thirteen other Turkish mosques nationwide are also adopting this measure.
