Uber has implemented new internal spending caps on artificial intelligence tools for its employees following an unexpectedly high expenditure that depleted its annual budget within four months. The ridesharing company has set a monthly limit of $1,500 per employee for agentic coding tools, such as Anthropic’s Claude Code and Cursor. While exceptions can be made with permission, this move comes after Uber's Chief Technology Officer disclosed in April that the company had already exhausted its AI budget for the year.
