The European Parliament is poised to suspend the implementation of a trade agreement with the United States, following the US Supreme Court's decision to invalidate some of Donald Trump's tariffs. This move, announced on Monday, February 23rd, comes after Trump's Friday declaration of new global tariffs, initially 10% and later increased to 15%, intended to replace the invalidated ones. The Parliament's Committee on International Trade, led by Bernd Lange, will propose the suspension during an extraordinary meeting, with major political groups confirming their support. MEPs are seeking clarification from the US on the conditions of these new tariffs before proceeding with the agreement, which was finalized on July 27th and originally included a 15% general tariff and reciprocal tariff reductions.
