Ukraine drone attack kills 8 in Russian-held territory in new escalation 03.06.2026

A drone attack on a bus in Russian-controlled Donetsk, Ukraine, killed at least eight people and injured ten, escalating the ongoing conflict. This incident occurred as Ukrainian drones also struck infrastructure in St. Petersburg, Russia, causing damage and injuries during President Vladimir Putin's economic forum. These attacks follow a significant Russian barrage that killed 23 across Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed responsibility for hitting military targets in Russia, including an oil terminal near St. Petersburg approximately 1,100 kilometers from the border. Russia stated its response would be "systemic" and aimed at preventing such strikes, while also reporting the destruction of hundreds of Ukrainian drones. NATO chief Mark Rutte visited Kyiv, asserting Russia's growing desperation amidst Ukraine's resilience and battlefield gains.
