Ukraine has six to nine months to take advantage of the breakthrough in the war – NATO official 07.07.2026

A NATO official stated during a summit in Ankara that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have six to nine months to make the most effective use of the current advantage on the battlefield. According to her, Ukraine has demonstrated significant success, reclaiming more territory than it has lost and forcing Russia into a defensive posture. However, the Alliance warns that the Russian Federation adapts quickly to tactical changes, making this period critical for understanding the enemy's rate of adaptation. Previously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov also pointed to a potential Ukrainian advantage over the next six months. Despite regular shelling of Russian regions and massive drone attacks on Moscow, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasizes that the Russian army still maintains significant offensive potential, necessitating decisive action from Ukraine in the near term.
