Vier Jahre ukrainisches Leid - und die Geflüchteten? 23.02.2026

Four years into the war in Ukraine, the conflict continues to inflict suffering, with recent Russian drone attacks on Ukraine and explosions in Lviv injuring at least 15 people. Approximately 6.5 million Ukrainians have fled their country, with 1.3 million seeking refuge in Germany. However, conditions for Ukrainian refugees in Germany are becoming more challenging, as new arrivals may receive reduced asylum seeker benefits instead of Bürgergeld and potentially lose funding for integration courses, despite studies showing their rapid job market integration. This policy shift, proposed by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, is concerning experts who fear it will undermine past successes, especially as over half of refugees surveyed plan to stay long-term.
