A new report estimates that the direct damage from the war in Ukraine between February 24, 2022, and the end of December 2025 will reach $195.1 billion USD. The reconstruction of the country is projected to cost $587.7 billion USD over the next decade, with housing, transportation, and energy sectors being the most heavily impacted. Approximately 14% of housing stock, affecting over three million households, will be damaged or destroyed by the end of 2025, with 75% of the total damage concentrated in frontline areas, particularly the Kyiv region and eastern Ukraine. In parallel, Ukraine's Chief of Staff, Kyrylo Budanov, indicated that a large-scale prisoner exchange with Russia could occur this week, potentially larger than the previous exchange of 157 prisoners per side. The EU has also imposed sanctions on eight Russian individuals for human rights violations and undermining the rule of law.
