Ukraine targets St Petersburg as ‘Putin’s Davos’ gets underway 03.06.2026

Ukraine launched a significant drone attack targeting Russia's Leningrad region, including Saint Petersburg, as the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, often dubbed "Putin's Davos," commenced on Wednesday. Russian air defenses claimed to have intercepted over 350 drones across western Russia, with approximately 60 downed in the Leningrad region, which saw damage to infrastructure and several injuries. Simultaneously, strikes on critical infrastructure in Smolensk resulted in the deaths of two firefighters and injuries to others. These Ukrainian attacks followed a deadly Russian barrage on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv and Dnipro, which killed at least 23 people, prompting strong condemnation from the UN.
