Ukraine-Unterstützung Ungarn blockiert neue EU-Sanktionen gegen Russland 23.02.2026

Hungary has blocked new EU sanctions against Russia and a significant multi-billion euro EU loan for Ukraine ahead of the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that Hungary will only approve these measures if Ukraine allows the resumption of Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline, accusing Kyiv of politically motivated obstruction. Ukraine, however, attributes the oil supply interruption since late January to Russian bombings. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, expressed incomprehension, calling Hungary's linkage of unrelated issues a setback, while Germany criticized Hungary's stance, urging it to facilitate the aid without "extraneous considerations." The proposed loan aims to provide Ukraine up to 90 billion euros by the end of 2027, with 60 billion earmarked for defense, and repayment contingent on Russian reparations.
