Ukraine war briefing: Estonia leads with entry ban on Russians who fought in Ukraine 14.01.2026

Estonia has implemented an entry ban on 261 Russian individuals who fought in Ukraine, with Foreign Minister Markus Tsahkna urging other European nations to follow suit. The Estonian government, citing security concerns due to the combat experience and potential criminal backgrounds of these veterans, estimates that approximately 1.5 million Russians have participated in the invasion. This move, supported by Baltic and Nordic countries, aligns with Ukraine's call for such measures to signal that impunity will not be tolerated. Meanwhile, Ukraine reported striking a drone manufacturing plant in Russia's Rostov region, while two Greek-owned oil tankers were hit in the Black Sea. Russia, in turn, launched a significant overnight attack across Ukraine, impacting eight regions, causing casualties, and disrupting heat and power for millions.
