Ukraine's drone attacks into Russia will mark 'new chapter' in war, Zelenskyy says 07.07.2026

In a massive escalation of long-range strikes, Ukraine launched over 400 drones into Russia overnight, targeting 16 regions including Moscow and occupied Crimea. Moscow authorities reported downing at least 452 drones, while Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed 43 interceptions near the capital. This surge prompted significant flight restrictions across multiple Russian cities and international airports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized this intensified drone campaign as a "new chapter" in the war, aiming to pressure President Vladimir Putin by bringing the conflict directly to Russian urban centers like Moscow and St. Petersburg. Zelenskyy stated that increasing the scale of these strikes will unsettle Russian elites and force Putin to recognize the reality of the war. Meanwhile, Russia retaliated with 123 drones against Ukraine, resulting in 12 impacts and contributing to a recent deadly strike in Kyiv that killed 22 people.
