Ukrainian drones hit St Petersburg as Putin's flagship economic forum opens 03.06.2026

Ukrainian drones targeted the outskirts of St. Petersburg, Russia, on Wednesday, striking near the city where President Vladimir Putin was scheduled to address the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Local authorities reported that air defenses intercepted 59 drones, with impacts occurring in three districts, though no fatalities were reported. The strikes temporarily disrupted mobile internet and led to the closure of Pulkovo Airport. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the drone attacks, stating they hit an oil terminal and a naval base in Kronstadt, the Baltic Fleet's main outpost. This event occurs as the economic forum, intended to attract foreign investment, opens with international guests, including a U.S. delegation, and as Ukraine continues to develop its defense capabilities, focusing on Russian energy infrastructure.
