Umfrage des Deutschland-Monitors Jeder Fünfte offen für autoritäre Ideen 19.02.2026

The 2025 Deutschland-Monitor survey reveals that approximately one in five people in Germany are open to authoritarian ideas, with this sentiment being higher in East Germany where one in four express such views. While 98 percent of the roughly 8,000 respondents support the idea of democracy and 89 percent reject dictatorship outright, a significant portion, 21 percent, are receptive to an authoritarian worldview. This openness is reflected in agreement with statements advocating for a single strong party (31% fully agree nationally), decisions made by a strong leader without parliamentary constraints (11% fully agree nationally), and even the possibility of dictatorship under certain circumstances (4% fully agree nationally). The survey, funded by Ostbeauftragte Elisabeth Kaiser, also indicates lower satisfaction with the functioning of democracy, particularly in East Germany (51% satisfied), and a general perception of negative democratic development (71%).
