An former member of the Béatitudes, a religious community in southern France, has been definitively condemned by the Church in January 2026 for sexual abuse committed between 1975 and 2010. After his exclusion from the community in 2010, he established himself as a general practitioner in La Roche-sur-Yon, Vendée. Although he was indicted for rape, the investigating chamber granted him a non-suit in 2018, a legal development that the Vendée medical board was unaware of. The president of the medical board expressed frustration, stating that they should have been informed to implement precautionary measures and request his suspension from the regional health agency.
