UN chief calls for Israel to re-open Gaza crossings: spokesman 02.03.2026

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, through his spokesman Stephane Dujarric, urged Israel on Monday to reopen Gaza's border crossings, which were closed following the commencement of the war against Iran, a conflict also involving the United States. The Rafah crossing, Gaza's sole non-Israeli gateway, was among those shut down on Saturday as a security measure, despite having reopened for pedestrian traffic on February 2 after nearly two years of Israeli control during the Hamas war. Dujarric highlighted that Israeli authorities have suspended humanitarian movements in and near deployed Israeli troops' areas, forcing partners to ration fuel and prioritize essential operations with dwindling local stocks.
