Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi following a drone attack on May 17 that originated from Iraq. The strike targeted a generator outside the plant, causing a fire and leading to the temporary shutdown of one reactor. Grossi emphasized the "extreme gravity" of the incident, describing it as a "very carefully targeted operation" aimed at critical electrical structures essential for the plant's safety. He commended the UAE's swift and "impeccable" emergency response, confirming that all safety protocols were effectively implemented. The UAE's representative to the IAEA stated that the plant is now operating normally with all safety systems intact.
