UN relief chief sounds alarm over escalation in Sudan's North Kordofan 03.07.2026

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher issued a stark warning on Tuesday about the rapidly deteriorating situation in Sudan's North Kordofan region. In a statement, Fletcher expressed alarm over escalating violence, particularly intensifying drone attacks that are killing civilians and disrupting access to essential services like drinking water and electricity. He drew a direct parallel to the siege of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, which fell to the Rapid Support Forces in September and October 2025, resulting in a massacre of civilians. "We cannot allow El Obeid to become another El Fasher," Fletcher emphasized, highlighting the grave risk of deeper human suffering.
