Un séisme de magnitude 7,1 frappe en pleine mer, à moins de 100 km des côtes 22.02.2026

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Malaysia on Monday, February 23rd, at 00:57 local time. The epicenter was located less than 100 kilometers northeast of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah state on the island of Borneo, at a depth of 619.8 kilometers. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated the risk of casualties and damage to be low, and the U.S. Tsunami Warning System issued no alerts, citing the earthquake's depth as a factor precluding a tsunami. The Malaysian Meteorological Department, which reported a magnitude of 6.8, stated it would continue to monitor the situation closely, as tremors were felt along the west coast of Sabah and in parts of Sarawak.
