Un surfeur mortellement blessé, vraisemblablement par un requin à Nouméa 22.02.2026

A wing foil surfer, born in 1970, was found dead on Sunday in a bay in Nouméa, New Caledonia, with authorities suspecting a shark attack. The discovery was made shortly after 5:30 PM local time, prompting the evacuation of Anse-Vata beach to allow emergency services to operate. The Nouméa prosecutor, Yves Dupas, announced an investigation into the cause of death, including an autopsy by a shark specialist and the interviewing of a witness. This incident follows recent heavy rainfall, which is known to increase the risk of sharks near the coast, and occurs in a bay frequented by water sports enthusiasts, recalling three similar incidents in early 2023, one of which resulted in a fatality.
