By November, there is a 90 percent chance of El Nino forming, which is characterized by unusually warm sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the urgency of this climate warning, noting that El Nino, a naturally occurring event happening every two to seven years, can trigger diverse impacts globally, including increased rainfall in some regions and drought in others, alongside a potential for more severe hurricanes. This year's El Nino is predicted to be at least moderate, possibly strong, potentially exacerbating wildfires, impacting crop yields, and raising food prices, while also contributing to disease spread and water scarcity.
