UN warns likelihood of ‘extreme weather events’ as El Nino set to intensify 03.07.2026

The United Nations' World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued a warning about intensifying El Nino conditions, which are forecast to strengthen rapidly from July to September. In a statement on Friday, the WMO noted that El Nino typically peaks between November and February, but current conditions are already set in and expected to become a strong event. WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo emphasized that this will heighten the chances of drought, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves on land and marine heatwaves in many regions globally.
