Une charte adoptée pour protéger les arbres dans cette commune de Vendée 21.02.2026

The municipal council of Challans, Vendée, has adopted a communal charter and a tree valuation scale aimed at the preventive and repressive protection of its arboreal heritage. With over 9,340 trees inventoried in public spaces, plus communal woodlands and parks, the initiative seeks to address the difficult urban conditions trees face, including planting constraints, underground networks, soil impermeabilization, and damage from works. This charter, developed for 2025, is designed to be educational and will be disseminated to the public, targeting both individuals and developers. Its five major objectives include valuing the existing tree stock, improving its management, enhancing tree living conditions, integrating trees into development projects, and renewing the aging canopy. While not legally binding, the charter provides recommendations and will be accompanied by measures such as a prescription booklet for public works and a guide for developers.
