Une tombe « de haut rang » vieille de plus de mille ans découverte au Panama 21.02.2026

Archaeologists in Panama have unearthed a pre-Hispanic tomb, estimated to be over 1,200 years old, at the El Caño archaeological park in Coclé. The tomb, dating between 800 and 1000 AD, contains human remains adorned with gold and ceramic objects, indicating the burial of a high-ranking individual. Among the artifacts are two breastplates, two bracelets, and two ear ornaments, with the breastplates featuring depictions of bats and crocodiles. This discovery, announced on February 20, 2026, is significant for understanding the social organization, political power, and ritual practices of pre-Hispanic societies in Central America, suggesting that death was viewed as a transition where social status remained relevant.
